The TOB 2010 is an unprecedented editorial and ecumenical event, because it contains six additional deuterocanonical books used in the liturgy of the Orthodox Churches: 3 and 4 Esdras, 3 and 4 Maccabees, the Prayer of Manasseh and Psalm 151. The addition of these books, at the instigation of the St. Sergius Institute of Orthodox Theology, confirms the ecumenical character of the TOB. When consulted on this initiative, the various churches gave their official approval. These additional books were placed after the deuterocanonical books received by the Catholics. They were translated, introduced and annotated under the supervision of a scientific committee, according to the principles of the TOB. Some of these texts did not exist until now in French translation. An extensive introduction to the Deuterocanonical books, never before published, completed by a summary table of the Jewish and Christian canons of the Old Testament, offers a new look at the complex formation of the canon of Scripture and its reception in the various traditions.
