The Louis Segond version of the Bible is one of the most widespread in the French-speaking world. Published at the end of the 19th century, its first version was the work of a Genevan pastor born to French parents. First published in 2007, Segond 21 is the result of 12 years of work on the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts and takes into account the new information available.
Why associate it with the formula "The original, with today's words"? Because the objective set for the translation team was to propose a French formulation that was:
- faithful to what the biblical text says in the original languages and to the way in which it expresses it,
- while using common vocabulary, still used in current life and understandable for young people of the 21st century.
