Since 1968, an uninterrupted flow of faithful has been going to Santa Domenica di Placanica, in Calabria (southern Italy), to meet Cosimo Fragomeni, a Franciscan tertiary better known as Fratel Cosimo.
In May 1968, Our Lady manifested herself to him and asked him to transform this deserted place into a place of prayer to bring people back to God and to build a shrine to receive pilgrims from all parts of the world. The site of the apparitions, around the rock (scoglio, in Italian) on which Mary appeared, has indeed become a place of fervent prayer where countless graces are granted.
The charisms, which the Holy Spirit filled Fratel Cosimo with, attract the faithful from all over the world and Scoglio is officially recognized as a place of worship by the Church.
In 2013, Pope Francis blessed the first two stones of the sanctuary which will be dedicated to Our Lady of Scoglio.
