In 1992 the Charismatic Movement of Assisi held its National Congress on the theme: "The Millennium in Sacred Scripture and Tradition". The aim was to study the difficult and delicate theme of Christian Eschatology, as it results from Divine Revelation. It was being examined at a time when the rapid approach of the third Christian millennium is giving rise to omens of radical historical changes. It was necessary to research Sacred Scripture to see whether the Word of God, the only source of truth, reveals to us a forthcoming and real change in the path of humanity, which will put an end to the predominance of the devil, inaugurating that Reign of God, foretold by the ancient prophets.
The theme of the Millennium presupposed another problem, that of the return of Christ. Should we expect his return in the near future or only at the end of the world? The biblists and theologians who speak of the coming of Christ think, with the exception of a few, of the last "parousia" (glorious coming) that will put an end to history.
The author of this book, Bishop Aldo Gregori, does not share this opinion and believes in the imminent coming of Jesus Christ on this earth to inaugurate his Reign of love and peace.
The novelty of the theme could produce in some people an instinctive rejection. The author hopes that it will not be rejected in advance. We must seek the truth with love and without prejudice. And if the truth is that of the intermediate coming of Jesus, then we must prepare ourselves to receive Him with humility of heart and purity of mind.
