What man who has been given the grace of prayer has not felt at some point that his life would be transformed if he were given the gift of perpetual prayer: as if the air of the great expanse filled our lungs and made us sense the infinite? But returning to everyday life, we have to breathe in a foul air again and stumble laboriously on the ground, when we had already flown into space with "eagle wings" (Baudelaire) and glimpsed the infinite.
Few of us have had the finer, more delicate, imperceptible (more subtle, as St. Ignatius says) experience that the humble prayer of the Rosary leads us little by little into the heavenly adoration that takes possession of our heart. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit we fathom our deepest self, our inner man, the place where God dwells in us.
Prayer alone opens us to the experience of this plane of our being - our own mystery - which is normally closed to our consciousness.
Does not man see that the pearls of his Rosary, which have always slipped through his fingers, in the depths of contemplation, the grace of perpetual prayer springs forth and his life is renewed?
