Renato Bruson stars as Venetian Doge Francesco Foscari in this dark tragedy in three acts by Verdi, based on a drama by Lord Byron and set in 15th century Venice. Gianandrea Gavazzeni conducts La Scala's 1988 production of a work considered one of Verdi's finest early operas, which led to a career of operatic immortality. Taken from the RAI television archives, this classic recording comes from one of the world's greatest opera houses.
