The Lake Chad Basin appears, over the long term of history, as a privileged zone of exchange between North Africa and Central Africa, East Africa and West Africa. The mixing that has taken place there has forged a multitude of identities, which are defined by a wide variety of oral and/or written traditions, material cultures, economies, political and religious systems. This space is currently politically divided into States, which have covered without erasing the old pre-colonial structures. For less than a quarter of a century, new economic resources (agricultural, mining, industrial) have created a new differentiation of space. Formerly attractive areas are losing their populations, others, little valued in the past, are becoming points of intra and transnational convergence. The study of migration and spatial mobility therefore offers a choice perspective to analyze, through the prism of the many disciplines of social and environmental sciences, the upheavals currently underway in this region.
