The Preface is by Cardinal André Vingt-Trois, Archbishop of Paris, and the foreword by Cardinal Poupard.
Divine Mercy is at the heart of the Message that Saint Faustina received from Jesus. This Message is a vibrant call to trust in God, to trust in his Mercy as a last lifeline for a humanity that is moving further and further away from God its Creator and Savior.
God is love, and desires that men be happy and participate in his Beatitude. But in the face of a humanity that refuses this love, God has not allowed his justice to be exercised in all its rigor while humanity has well deserved it by its increasingly numerous sins. Only his Mercy can still save us. He therefore chose a humble and docile soul, Sister Faustina Kowalska, to transmit to the world his call to trust in his Divine Mercy which infinitely surpasses all the malice of man. This devotion to Divine Mercy is mainly embodied in these four practices:
- The painting of Merciful Jesus with the phrase "Jesus, I trust in You".
- The feast of Divine Mercy fixed, by Jesus himself, on the Sunday following Easter Day. To prepare for this feast, the Savior dictated a novena that Saint Faustina Kowalska transcribed in her little diary.
- The Chaplet of Divine Mercy, to be prayed especially for the dying: "If this chaplet is recited next to a dying person, I will stand between the Father and the dying soul, not as a just Judge, but as a merciful Savior".
- The Holy Hour of Divine Mercy, the hour at which Christ died on the cross: 3:00 p.m.
Reading this book will allow you to learn in detail about all these devotional practices and to discover Jesus' poignant call to all humanity to have recourse to his Divine Mercy, because Jesus loves us and wants us to be saved.
This Divine Mercy is not reserved for great sinners, because not being a great sinner is a gift of Divine Mercy.
