In 2007, Alina Reyes went to spend Holy Week in Santiago de Compostela, a way of purifying herself before what she considers to be death, which occurred on May 15, in Paris. The writing of the prayer-poems delivered here is linked to her return to life.
From the first poems written in a Carmelite monastery on May 29, 2007, the day after Whit Monday, to the last ones written in her high-altitude sheepfold in 2008, these 70 psalms for our time are as many arrows of fire shot toward Heaven, mystical poems burned in the sun of God, vibrating with a new energy.
Written from Samos, Ephesus or Patmos, at the home of John the beloved disciple; from Aswan, between the desert of sand, the sky covered with white birds and the sails of feluccas on the Nile; in monasteries or on a boat cruising off the coast of Piraeus; from Lourdes at Bernadette's; from Mont-Saint-Michel and the forest of Brocéliande, these truly modern psalms of great beauty bear witness to the passage of Grace in a being thirsty for truth and meaning.
Many were written at dawn, "I woke up, I went out and they came". Others at night, without light, by the light of the stars alone. Some came from the wind, in the Bay of the Dead, in Finisterre, Brittany. Neither the places nor the dates were really wanted by the author, like these prayers they imposed themselves. "I did nothing to write, I only took the notebook and the pen, everything presented itself to me naturally as it happened, I just had to write down", she says. "These love poems are a weapon of war, I cannot be satisfied with making poetry or literature. When the author, by strings of sentences, pulls the beast out of its ivory tower, he can put the worm in the word; or try to free the soul by making his word a sword. I want, here and now, to deliver a language of the fire of God."
