Lessons for Peace

"These Lessons for Peace are my contribution to humanity's most urgent challenge. I want, in my place, to encourage peace. I believe that peace today comes through the reconciliation of believers of the major faiths on five continents. I want to try to analyze what complicates and seizes the relations between the Judeo-Christian traditions and the countries of Muslim faith. [...] Following my habit, I will refer to the background of demography as a witness to the state of the world and its health. I will use the historical chronology and its great figures to grasp the moments and places of the incomprehension that could fester until the outcome of an endemic war in the Middle East, justified today by a "crusade" against evil in Iraq, Afghanistan, on the borders of Pakistan, Iran, Israel and even in the suburbs of the great Western metropolises. I cannot put aside the book of the Bible which contains all the wisdom of the world, and which is dangerously brandished in the name of an anachronistic imperialism, while it contains for me, as for hundreds of millions of men and women, Life and Hope. I hope that these "lessons" from an old professor, as sincere as possible, will allow any kind reader to advance with me on the fragile path to peace."
