The Healing Power of Kindness

The inspiring message that Jesus conveyed to the world in A Course in Miracles—in such beautiful language, with such brilliant logic, and blessed words of love—means nothing if it is not lived and put into practice. This is why, in the text, Jesus tells his students these very important sentences, to warn them not to repeat the mistakes of the last twenty-one centuries and especially not to try to teach his message without first having learned it themselves.

Do not teach that I died in vain. Rather, teach that I did not die by demonstrating that I live in you (T-11.VI.7:3-4).

In other words, we teach Jesus' message by living according to his teaching of forgiveness. This undoes the lessons of hatred, attack and murder of the ego, and thus demonstrates the effectiveness of Jesus' message. It is not our words, but our lives:

There is a major difference in the role of the messengers of Heaven that distinguishes them from those whom the world designates. The messages they transmit are intended first for themselves. And only when they can accept them for themselves do they become able to carry them further and give them wherever they were intended. Like the earthly messengers, they have not written the messages they carry, but they become the first receivers of them in the truest sense, receiving in order to prepare themselves to give (L-I.154.6). Kenneth Wapnick was a close associate and friend of Helen Shucman and William Thetford, the two persons who originated A Course in Miracles. His books and lectures on the Course are authoritative.
